Bill Melendez, the Peanuts Gang Animator dies at 91

Bill Melendez, the animator who made the “Peanuts Gang” comic strip into moving cartoon characters on television, died Sept. 2 at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. The cause of death was not reported.
He began his career at the Hollywood animations studios of Walt Disney and Warner Bros., he finally got his biggest break as the animator of “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and in addition to animating every “Peanuts” film and TV special, He was also wordless voice of Snoopy, Charlie Brown’s famous beagle. Mr. Melendez spoke gibberish into a tape recorder, then played the tape at high speed. (He used the same method to record the chirping voice of the bird Woodstock.)
