Dresses made out of Paper by Isabelle de Borchgrave

At first glance you would have never guessed what Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave used in making these stunning dresses, but if you take a closer look, you will see that these are made from simple sheets of paper.

She began her artistic career as a painter, but all of this changed when she discovered the versatility of paper while making paper costumes for her children. And then in 1994, she met Rita Browne, a Canadian costume designer and since then they made stunning masterpieces of detailed garments in almost every decade in fashion history. A few of her works will be on view June 16 to December 30, 2012 at Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens (Washington) entitled: “Prêt-à-Papier : The Exquisite Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave”. Visit her site to see more of her works.
